Connecticut Sea Grant College Program Zebra Mussel Outreach and Education Program

Objectives/Abstract:

  1. To maintain and expand the on-going public outreach program on zebra mussels and other non-indigenous aquatic nuisance species in Connecticut; to continue regional cooperative efforts.
  2. To continue coordinating and facilitating of efforts of CT Zebra Mussel Task Force and strengthen regional communication among the Northeast individual statewide task forces.
  3. To continue to coordinate Connecticut's zebra mussel monitoring program.
  4. To develop and distribute appropriate educational materials on zebra mussels and other non-indigenous aquatic nuisance species, including regional newsletter.

Methodology:

  1. Maintain SGMAP as public's key source of information; maintain and expand mailing list.
  2. Participate in meetings with Northeast Sea Grant network and VT DEC; ad hoc regional zebra mussel task force.
  3. Coordinate efforts with state Zebra Mussel Task Force, and with regional Network contacts.
  4. Develop/complete and distribute proposed educational materials; newsletter.
  5. Give training and educational presentations; hold conferences and workshops.
  6. Supervise graduate assistant
