Objectives/Abstract:

  1. To expand the Clearinghouses's information database on current proposed, and completed North American zebra mussel research, and to use that information to provide university, governmental, and private sector researchers with a central clearinghouse for information pertinent to the zebra mussel.
  2. To provide municipal, utility and industrial surface water users with a central clearinghouse for information on the most up-to-date monitoring and control technologies available regarding the zebra mussel.
  3. To provide recreational users, elected officials, and the general public with a central clearinghouse for obtaining research information on the spread and control of zebra mussels.
  4. To expand the Clearinghouse's information databases on regional zebra mussel monitoring programs and federal, state, and local zebra mussel public policy initiatives.
  5. To expand the Clearinghouse's base of scientific information by means of continued translation and dissemination of select foreign language zebra mussel-related scientific papers as identified by a panel of outside scientific advisors.
  6. To provide state and regional zebra mussel task forces and other zebra mussel information centers with real time access to the most up-to-date research and technology available for dissemination to local audiences and for use in implementing zebra mussel monitoring and control programs and making policy decisions.
